Breathe a flower, smelling it is a little happiness. And this is even more true than you think! A Japanese study recently identified a floral compound, linalole, which would remove certain property of immune responses to stress. Inhaled in stress situation, this compound has subsided, at least in rats, a hundred genes overworked and returned to normal levels of stress hormones in the blood. The researchers also sniff certain plants would fight inflammation and depression and foster sleep. Good candidates to calm us nostrils: mango, grapes, basil, lavender and citrus.
